Food package labels can significantly influence food portion size choice. In this research we investigate whether package labels featuring the word ‘surprise’ influence food portion size choice of hedonic snacks. Surprise appeals are used frequently by the food industry to encourage product choice (e.g., surprise menus at restaurants), but their effect on portion size choice is not yet well understood. In four experimental studies, we investigate the effect of surprise labels—without changing the level of information about the product—on food portion size choice. We consistently find that surprise labels (e.g., surprise chocolates box)—compared to conventional labels (e.g., chocolates box)—increase food portion size choice. We furthermore show that this effect is driven by an increase in anticipated enjoyment associated with the surprise-labeled snack. Theoretically, our findings contribute to literature on the implications of the halo effect in food portion size choice by showing that a surprise label triggers a positive halo effect and thereby increases portion size choice. 相似文献

In this work, BiVO4 composites, containing the tetragonal zircon phase (tz-BiVO4), and monoclinic scheelite phase (ms-BiVO4), were synthesized using the microemulsion method. The effect of pH on phase composition and photocatalytic activity were investigated. Based on X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), a ms/tz-BiVO4 composite forms at pH = 1.0 and pure ms-BiVO4 is obtained in the pH range 4.0–10.0. The three primary steps in preparing BiVO4 were monitored by optical microscopy and the role played by the microemulsion on the phase composition of BiVO4 is explained. Photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL), UV–visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-DRS), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were employed to characterize the physical and chemical properties of BiVO4 composites. The composite formed at pH = 1 exhibited the lowest hole-electron (h+-e-) recombination rate, resulting in the highest photocatalytic activity towards microcystin-LR (MC-LR), with near 100% removal of MC-LR in 5 h. ESR and trapping experiments indicated that MC-LR degradation was mediated primarily by hydroxyl radicals (•OH), superoxide radicals (O2•−) and photogenerated holes (h+). 相似文献

ABSTRACT In spite of groundwater’s growing importance, the 2008 Draft Articles on the Law of Transboundary Aquifers have yet to be fully adopted by the international community. As states contemplate the future of the draft articles, this article aims to reassess them through the lens of the legal principle of reciprocity. This article concerns the event-triggered fuzzy filter design for Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems subject to deception attacks under the stochastic multiple time-varying delays. A sequence of random variables, which are mutually independent but obey the Bernoulli distribution, is introduced to account for the randomly occurring communication delays. In order to efficiently utilize limited network communication bandwidth resources, the event-triggering scheme is adopted. A fuzzy filter with the attacked input signal is presented. Moreover, due to communication delays caused by event-triggering schemes and transmission, the filter adopts non-synchronous premise variables with the system. Then, by utilizing a model transformation technique, the fuzzy systems are developed. Furthermore, using the piecewise Lyapunov functional method technique, the resulting criterion provides sufficient conditions to ensure that fuzzy systems under deception attacks are stochastically stable with an H∞ performance. Accordingly, the conditions for the co-design of the fuzzy filter and event-triggering schemes are given. In this article, the memory-based dynamic event-triggered controller design issue is investigated for networked interval type-2 (IT2) fuzzy systems under non-periodic denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. For saving limited network bandwidth, a novel memory-based dynamic event-triggered mechanism (DETM) is proposed to schedule data communication. Unlike existing event-triggered generators, the developed memory-based DETM can utilize a series of newly released signals and further save network resources by introducing interval dynamic variables. Moreover, to improve design flexibility, an IT2 fuzzy controller with freely selectable fuzzy rule number and premise membership functions (MFs) is synthesized. Then, a new switched time-delay system with imperfectly matched MFs is established under the consideration of memory-based DETM and DoS attacks simultaneously. Besides, based on the property of MFs, the boundary information of membership grades and slack matrices are introduced in the stability analysis. Furthermore, by using a piecewise Lyapunov–Krasovskii method, membership-functions-dependent criteria are deduced to ensure the asymptotic stability of built fuzzy switched systems. Two‐dimensional (2D) polymers are novel covalent sheet materials with promising properties, but also great synthetic challenges. The inadequacy of traditional wet chemical synthesis calls for new synthetic paradigms. In this respect, employing surfaces as inherently 2D reaction venues appears an adequate choice and has recently already yielded encouraging results. Polymerization at air ? liquid and liquid ? liquid interfaces has been reported from time to time over the last decades, whereas recent efforts on solid surfaces are less traditional. In either case, both movement and coupling of monomers are already confined in two dimensions at interfaces or on surfaces. Accordingly, this approach naturally affords low‐dimensional reaction products. To achieve 2D reticulation, monomers are functionalized with multiple reactive groups of the same or a different kind, whereby their number and stereochemical arrangement predefines the ideal structure of the resulting 2D polymer. For the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the reactor licensees it regulates, there are a number of contemporary issues associated with the back end of the fuel cycle including, the agency's revision to its “Waste Confidence” decision and the path-forward for high-level waste disposal. Additionally, the 2012 Blue Ribbon Commission on America's Nuclear Future recommendations, the future of reprocessing, consolidated interim spent fuel storage, and maintaining technical competence within the NRC in challenging budgetary conditions are addressed. I conclude that there is confidence in the feasibility of safe storage of spent nuclear fuel following the licensed operational life of a reactor and any change in high-level waste policy will require Congressional action to amend the Nuclear Waste Policy Act. 相似文献
